All students receive graduate fellowships that range from half-tuition remission to full-tuition remission with generous stipends.

All students are also offered undergraduate teaching positions during their second year of study.

A complete application includes the online application, academic transcripts, test scores (if required), letters of recommendation, a résumé or curriculum vitae, a Statement of Academic Purpose, and an application fee.

Applicants also have the option of providing a short Personal History essay.

All application materials must be received by 5 p.m. If an application deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal U. holiday, then the next business day will be the deadline date.

Nyu Creative Writing Faculty

All applicants to the Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS) are required to submit a complete application for admission.

At any one time, there are about 110 students attending our graduate program. A: While it varies year to year, we're usually able to get the bulk of the notifications out in March. Waitlisted applicants are notified about the status of their applications as soon as possible, but it may be as late as mid-summer. A: Those interested in reapplying to the program must resubmit ALL application materials, and pay the application fee.

The Graduate School's admissions office will NOT maintain any application and supplementary materials from previous years. A: No, you must apply and be accepted to the Creative Writing Program to attend any of our classes.

Occasionally, with permission of the instructor and if there is sufficient room for enrollment, MFA students may have the option to take a craft course in a different genre.

Q: How many applicants do you have each year and how many are accepted? Of these, approximately 20-30 students are accepted in each genre. Because the length and makeup of the waitlist varies each year, we cannot provide any further information about it and do not provide information about an applicant's place on the waitlist or chances of being accepted from it.
